There is a bug in the RSS Feed I found a while ago.

I don't know if you have the rss feed on your site disabled, Morph, but I noticed a while ago that it had a bug in it. I fixed it a while ago and here is the fix...

Open /phpclanwebsite/news.php and look for lines 125 thru 131
Quote:
// RSS NewsFeed Button
if ($rss_enable == '1'){
if (file_exists("theme/$theme/images/rss_button.gif"Winks) echo"<br /><div align='left'><a href='rss_backend.php?page=$pagename'><img border='0' alt='RSS: A XML News Feed for $clanname on page $pagename' src='theme/$theme/images/rss_button.gif' /></a></div><br /><br />";
else echo"<br /><div align='left'><a href='rss_backend.php?page=$pagename'><img border='0' alt='RSS: A XML News Feed for $clanname on page $pagename' src='phpclanwebsite/images/rss_button.gif' /></a></div><br /><br />";
}
}
?>
and change it to this
Code:
    }
  // RSS NewsFeed Button
if ($pagename == "forum" || $news_count > 0){
  if ($rss_enable == '1'){
    if (file_exists("theme/$theme/images/rss_button.gif")) { echo"<br /><div align='left'><a href='rss_backend.php?page=$pagename' title='RSS Feed' target='_blank'><img border='0' alt='RSS: A XML News Feed for $clanname on page $pagename' src='theme/$theme/images/rss_button.gif' /></a></div>";
  } elseif (file_exists("theme/$theme/images/rss_button.png")) { echo"<br /><div align='left'><a href='rss_backend.php?page=$pagename' title='RSS Feed' target='_blank'><img border='0' alt='RSS: A XML News Feed for $clanname on page $pagename' src='theme/$theme/images/rss_button.png' /> RSS Feed</a></div>";
  } else { echo"<br /><div align='left'><a href='rss_backend.php?page=$pagename' title='RSS Feed' target='_blank'><img border='0' alt='RSS: A XML News Feed for $clanname on page $pagename' src='phpclanwebsite/images/rss_button.gif' /></a></div>";
  }
  }
}
?>

What it does is this, it fixes a small bug where sometimes the new news item is not picked up by the RSS Feed and it also added new forum posts, ones visible to non-members, added to an additional RSS Feed.

What I did was I subscribed to the Forum RSS Feed for my site on my phone so I get updates when someone posts new forum threads or comments.

I also forgot this part of the fix..

On your /rss_backend.php file you will see this line (line 42)
Quote:
if ($func== "forum" && $rss_enable == '1'){
It needs to be changed to this
Code:
if (($pagename == "forum" || $func== "forum") && $rss_enable == '1'){

Don't forget the fix I posted about the rss_backend.php file.

Now how this works, is the forum has a separate rss feed. So you have to subscribe to it separately.

Actually every page that has news has a separate news feed. The only thing is that it does not display news on your version of news.php and it will only have the RSS button if you have a news item on that page or if it is the forum.

Oh yea, I think the forum rss feed worked, or almost worked, at least for public access, I forget. I haven't touched the RSS feeds though since the site sorta died, lol. I will have to see what status it's in atm, cause I had made changes to those files a long time ago as well.

What exactly are you wanting to do? Just have all the forum posts on it and have the button on the home page with forum posts on it also?

If so, I have an idea.

Also, I see you haven't implemented all the fixes for the forum code.
I noticed on the forum_reply.php and on forum_edit.php files there is fixes to be made. Mainly you need the functions (no_magic_quotes and add_magic_quotes from the /pcw/mysql_phpclanwebsite.php.inc file) on these.

Just download the forum mod fix and look at any place where you input the data or it pulls the data and displays it.

If you want me to look it over, just send the files and I will tell you what to change.

Well, the current bug and why I don't have it available is that you can see topics in threads/areas you are not suppose to see. For example, if I make a post in a secure area, you will be able to see that topic. Granted, when you click the link it will then check security and you won't be able to see the actual post, but sometimes the thread name will be too much info in itself. Poke

Did you check it when you are logged out?

I know it does not do this on my site.

Maybe check the rss_backend.php in the forum mod fix I posted. It is the one I am using and it does not do that. If you are still having this issue, I will look at the rss_backend.php and see.

It might be a way you process your forum security. It may differ slightly from how the rss_backend.php processes the security.

After all, the rss_backend.php should only pull the forums titles/slight desc based on the login details for the cookie that is saved on your browser. In otherwards, it should only show these topics to those who are suppose to see them ONLY when they are logged in.

If you want it to only show the forums that are public, just on the rss_backend.php, where it calls for the login details, have it set at a certain security value for guest. That way it will always, and only, pull the threads that are viewable by the public.
