Well, one good thing about being moved back to IM is the competition is getting harder in M:
As many of you may have noticed, Premier will not exist next season. I understand that this probably upsets some of you, so as per usual I'm going to try and explain the reasoning behind the decision.
What will happen:
There will be a placement tourney for the 16 teams still currently in Premier. This tournament consists of the Main winners, Premier teams with 10+ wins, and Invite teams with less than 7 wins.
The 16 teams will be divided into 4 groups, the top 2 teams from each group will reseeded (according to their group play performance) and they will then play 1 match (bo3) with the 4 winners moving to Invite.
Teams that don't make Invite will be moved to Main. Assuming they all decide to remain active, there will end up being about 36-40 teams per conference in Main.
Why so many teams:
There probably won't be this many teams in Main next season, but if we had restricted it anymore, we wouldn't be able to move enough teams up from Intermediate (4-8 teams per conference currently).
Won't the skill gap be too large (top main/bottom main)?
Yes, there will be a skill gap, but because scheduling is done by record for the most part, the upper level teams will get scheduled against other upper level teams after the first week or so... so it's really a non-issue.
Why did Premier have to be removed?
There simply aren't enough teams to keep 5 highly competitive divisions going. Over the course of the next couple seasons, the lower tier teams will slowly be weeded out, Main will become much tougher to get into, and competition will become much fiercer (because very few teams will move from Main to Invite each season).
Why is this a good thing?
It raises the competition level in all 4 remaining divisions. Main has a much larger/active community to begin with, with more people interested in predictions and allstar games etc. The added competition will simply improve on this. Oh... and you get me as DM... and I'm the best there is. *grin*
